Agartala, 15th July 2026:  The newly opened Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital near Jackson Gate in Agartala has begun attracting patients with its modern healthcare facilities and improved services. Inaugurated on July 12, 2026, by Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, the hospital was established to enhance healthcare access for residents of the state and reduce the growing burden on GBP Hospital and IGM Hospital.

Since the beginning of operations, the hospital’s Outpatient Department (OPD) has been functioning in two shifts, receiving a positive response from the public. On a single day, as many as 65 patients visited the hospital for medical consultations and treatment, indicating growing confidence in the newly introduced healthcare facility.

The 50-bed civil hospital has been developed under the state government’s efforts to improve medical infrastructure in Tripura. The facility offers a range of services, including OPD consultations, indoor patient care, emergency services, and well-equipped wards with modern facilities. The fully air-conditioned hospital also provides ambulance support for patients requiring transportation services.

A team of experienced specialists is currently providing medical care at the hospital. The team includes gynaecologist Dr. Sushanta Saha, general medicine specialist Dr. Uttam Kumar Barman, dermatologist Dr. Anwesha Roy Bardhan, paediatrician Dr. Arup Roy, ophthalmologist Dr. Amit Kumar Das, and dental surgeon Dr. Anwesha Bhattacharya.

The hospital is supported by nine nursing officers, an ECG technician, two laboratory technicians, a radiographer, and other healthcare staff. It also offers various blood testing and diagnostic facilities, helping patients access essential medical services under one roof.

Constructed at an estimated cost of ₹20.37 crore, the modern civil hospital is expected to play a significant role in strengthening healthcare delivery across Tripura. Besides residents of Agartala, people travelling to the capital city from different districts for work and other purposes are also expected to benefit from the facility.

During the inauguration, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha highlighted the government’s commitment to providing transparent, advanced, and quality healthcare services, especially for economically weaker sections of society. He emphasized that such initiatives are aimed at improving public welfare and ensuring better medical facilities for all.

As part of the Digital India initiative inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the hospital has also introduced Tripura’s first digital registration system. The new system is designed to simplify patient registration, reduce waiting time, and make healthcare services more accessible and efficient.
