Agartala, 5th July 2025: The Advisory Committee meeting of Agartala’s Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport was convened today at the meeting hall of the airport’s old terminal building. The session was chaired by Member of Parliament from West Tripura and Committee Chairman Biplab Kumar Deb.
The meeting was attended by Airport Director K.C. Meena, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar K, Advisory Committee member Krishna Dhan Das, and other officials.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, MP Biplab Kumar Deb said, “The Advisory Committee meets twice a year to assess the convenience and challenges faced by air passengers. We discuss existing issues at the airport and deliberate on ways to improve services.”
However, he acknowledged that not all issues can be resolved at the committee level. “Some matters are beyond the committee’s scope. In such cases, the Airport Authority has already brought them to the attention of the Central Government,” Deb noted.
Highlighting the airport’s regional significance, Deb stated, “After Guwahati, the highest number of flights in the Northeast operate from Agartala MBB Airport. In terms of infrastructure, our airport is on par with Guwahati.”
On the possibility of introducing new flights, the MP explained, “It depends entirely on passenger load. If more than 50 percent of the seats remain vacant, airlines incur losses. So, this factor needs to be carefully considered.”
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the committee’s commitment to enhancing passenger experience and addressing logistical concerns through coordinated efforts with relevant authorities.
