Agartala, 5th July 2025: Despite claims of progress in Tripura’s education system under the “era of good governance,” the ground reality at Khedarnal Higher Basic School under Amarpur block appears starkly different. Serious allegations have emerged against several teachers for dereliction of duty, prompting concern among parents and local residents.
A team of media personnel visited the school around 11:30 am yesterday following complaints from guardians about irregularities. The in-charge teacher Bidhubhushan Saha was found absent allegedly a frequent occurrence. The remaining three teachers were seen sitting in the office room engrossed in their mobile phones. Upon seeing the media presence, the teachers reportedly rushed to the classrooms with the attendance register in hand.
One of the teachers Monindra Jamatia attempted to deflect questions but the situation had already drawn attention. “Teachers barely take more than one class a day. They spend most of the time looking at their phones. The school opens late and there’s hardly any proper class,” a class VIII student told the media persons.
According to local residents, the situation has been deteriorating for some time. They claim that the school suffers from a complete lack of administrative oversight. “The department is simply not monitoring the school. That’s why the teachers are doing as they please,” said a concerned parent.
Further criticism was directed at in-charge teacher Bidhubhushan Saha, who, locals allege, takes advantage of his political affiliation. “He comes and goes at his convenience because he is a leader of a nationalist organization affiliated with the ruling party,” said a resident.
Frustrated by the declining quality of education, parents and community members are now calling on the state education department to intervene. “Our children’s future is at stake. We demand strict action against these irresponsible teachers,” said another guardian.
