Agartala, 10th March 2026: The Northeast Frontier Railway has announced the launch of a new train service connecting Narangi in Assam with Agartala in Tripura, aimed at strengthening rail connectivity between the two states.
As per an official notification from the Office of the General Manager (Operations) at Maligaon, the inaugural journey will take place on Friday, March 13, 2026. The special inaugural train, numbered 05660 Narangi–Agartala Inaugural Special, will depart from Narangi Railway Station at 2:30 PM and is scheduled to arrive in Agartala at 5:45 AM the following morning.
Along its route, the train will stop at several key stations including Jagiroad, Hojai, Lumding, New Haflong, Badarpur, New Karimganj, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat and Ambassa, improving connectivity for passengers travelling through the Barak Valley, hill districts and Tripura.
The train will have 13 coaches comprising AC Chair Car, AC Three-Tier, Sleeper Class, Second Sitting and luggage-cum-brake vans, offering travel options for passengers across different fare categories.
Railway officials stated that the schedule for the regular Narangi–Agartala Express service will be announced separately after the inaugural run. The train is expected to operate daily between the two destinations once the regular timetable is finalized.
Authorities have also instructed relevant departments to ensure widespread awareness of the new service so that passengers can benefit from the improved connectivity. The introduction of this train is expected to enhance transportation links in the northeastern region and facilitate smoother travel between Assam and Tripura.
