Agartala, 15th November 2023: A 40-year-old woman, Khuku Rani Roy today tragically lost her life after undergoing surgery at Nightengal Nursing Home allegedly due to medical negligence.

The patient was admitted for the removal of gallbladder stones and bile duct stones. The family, hailing from the Rajarbagh area of Udaipur, entrusted the out-of-state doctors promised by the nursing home for the critical procedure.

The family members of the deceased woman said that the surgery, costing Rs 130,000, took place on Tuesday at 7 o’clock.

“Concerns arose when the doctor on duty failed to meet with the patient’s family post-surgery, leaving them with limited information about Khuku Rani Roy’s condition. Despite assurances from the hospital staff that the operation was successful, the family was only allowed to see the patient once, revealing a critical state.

As the night progressed, inquiries about the patient’s recovery were met with silence from health workers. Around 4 AM, nursing home staff urgently summoned the family, stating the patient’s condition had worsened and needed to be transferred to GB Hospital. Hastening to the nursing home, the family discovered that Khuku Rani Roy had already passed away.

The family, dissatisfied with the lack of communication and suspecting wrongful treatment, reported the incident to the police. Dr. Amit Kumar Singh, the doctor on duty, now faces allegations of negligence leading to the patient’s death. Attempts by the family to contact Dr. Singh post-surgery were reportedly unsuccessful.

Following the tragic event, the deceased’s body was transferred to the GB Hospital morgue. A post-mortem examination was conducted, and the body was handed over to the family on Wednesday.
