Agartala, May 22, 2023: The Anganwadi workers and helpers closed the Anganwadi Kendras due to non-payment of salaries by protesting the officials of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education. As a result, infants and pregnant mothers are in trouble. Such an unprecedented incident could be witnessed on Monday morning in 239 Anganwadi Kendras of Dumbur Nagar, Gandacherra sub-division under TTAADC. Anganwadi kendras was closed since morning.

Large number of tiny-tots arrived at these Anganwadi kendras, but were forced to go back home after finding the doors of the Anganwadi Kendras locked. It is learned that the employees of the concerned department are arguing with the Anganwadi workers about the salary. As many as 478 Anganwadi workers and helpers have not received their salaries in the month of April. This matter has been brought to the attention of the department officials.

On May 19 last, a deputation was given and demanded to pay their salaries quickly. Officials of the department assured them that the SMS will go to their mobiles by May 20 last. So don’t worry about it. But even after the scheduled date passed off, the salary SMS has not arrived on the mobile till now. So Anganwadi workers and helpers were forced to close 239 kendras on Monday.

In this regard, CDPO Mangal Hrangkhwal said that he did not know that the Anganwadi workers and helpers had decided to close the Anganwadi Kendra due to non-payment of salaries. However, he spoke to the top officials of the concerned department in this regard. Everyone has been paid. Anganwadi workers and helpers can go to the bank and withdraw their salary from this day if they want. He urged the workers and helpers not to close the Anganwadi Kendras on Tuesday.
