Agartala, 27th December 2025:  The police have achieved a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the shocking murder of delivery boy Prosenjit Sarkar. Within 14 days, the authorities have finally apprehended two of the five accused who had been on the run.

Today, the North District Police arrested the remaining two fugitives in connection with Prosenjit Sarkar’s death. The arrested individuals have been identified as Meghdweep Bhattacharya (24), a resident of Middle Nayapara, Dharmanagar Police Station, and Piu Dhar (22), a resident of South Harua, Dharmanagar Police Station.

According to police sources, the arrests were made during operations in the Churaibari police station jurisdiction while the suspects were returning from Assam to Tripura. One suspect was apprehended at a checkpoint in front of the police station, and the other was arrested from Premtala area. For security reasons, both were first taken to Churaibari police station, where all legal procedures were duly completed.

Police confirmed that these two accused had gone into hiding immediately after the mysterious death of Prosenjit Sarkar.

The two suspects were produced before the Dharmanagar District and Sessions Court today. The public prosecutor strongly opposed their bail applications. After hearing both sides, the honorable judge rejected the bail request and directed that the accused remain in judicial custody until December 30, 2025. The court also instructed the police to conduct interrogations while the accused are in jail. The five accused are scheduled to be presented in court again on December 30, 2025.

The case, registered at Dharmanagar Police Station under FIR No. 2025DMN122 dated December 14, 2025, falls under Sections 329(4), 115(2), 103(1), and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). On Saturday, the two newly arrested suspects were produced in court at 11:30 a.m.

Earlier, the North District Police, led by the District Superintendent, had arrested three other accused—Sushmita Bhattacharya, Songita Bhattacharya, and Saurabh Bhattacharya—from an area near a local railway station in South District. Following their court appearance, they were sent to judicial custody. Notably, the North District Police managed to apprehend all the accused within just 14 days of the incident, a feat that has been recognized as a significant achievement in administrative circles.

Since Prosenjit Sarkar’s death, local residents have been demanding strict punishment for the culprits. With the arrest of the two main fugitives, the investigation is expected to gain momentum, and the public hopes that the truth behind the tragic incident will soon be revealed.
