North Tripura Congress Protests Over Drinking Water Crisis in Sakaibari

Date:

Agartala, 6th July 2026:  The District Congress on Monday staged a road blockade in the Sakaibari area under Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura, demanding the immediate supply of safe drinking water to residents.

The protesters alleged that the area has been facing a severe drinking water shortage for a long time. They claimed that despite repeatedly bringing the issue to the attention of the concerned department, no effective steps have been taken to resolve the problem.

As a mark of protest, Congress workers and local residents blocked the road, disrupting vehicular movement for some time. The blockade was later lifted following the intervention of the administration, after which normal traffic resumed.

District Congress leaders warned that if the government fails to ensure the supply of safe drinking water at the earliest, they will intensify their agitation with a larger mass movement in the coming days.

The protesters also urged the government to intervene immediately and provide a permanent solution to what they described as a long-standing basic necessity for the people of the area.
