Agartala, 18th November 2025 : Tripura has registered a remarkable double achievement in water conservation, with both North Tripura and Sepahijala districts receiving national honours at the prestigious National Water Awards ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred the awards, marking a proud moment for the state.
North Tripura emerged as the Best Performing District in the North East and Hilly Zone under the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagaidari (JSJB) campaign. District Magistrate Chandni Chandran accepted the award, along with a prize of ₹2 crore. The district’s robust community-driven efforts led to the creation of over 11,000 water conservation structures between February and May 2025, setting a new benchmark in sustainable resource management. Officials attributed the achievement to strong administrative commitment and active public participation.
In another major honour, Sepahijala district received the National Water Award 2024 in the Best District Category – North East Zone. District Magistrate & Collector Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal received the award from President Murmu. The recognition highlights Sepahijala’s consistent emphasis on sustainable water management, innovative conservation measures, and people-centric initiatives implemented across the district.
Together, the twin achievements highlight Tripura’s growing national reputation for environmental stewardship, effective governance, and grassroots-driven development. The accolades serve as a morale booster for administrators and local communities alike, reaffirming the state’s leadership in water conservation efforts across the Northeast.
