Agartala, 30th December 2024:    The Dharmanagar city is abuzz with excitement following the arrest of a notorious fraudster who had been involved in multiple fraud cases across the Uttar district. The police successfully arrested the fraudster identified as Nuru Ahmed (39), who had been evading law enforcement for a long time.

Nuru Ahmed, hailing from ward number 1 of Lathugaon village in Dharmanagar subdivision was known for his fraudulent activities. His father is the late Abdul Haque. On December 29, he attempted to swindle Mrinal Das, a 34-year-old small businessman from Anandabazar area of Kanchanpur subdivision.

It is learned that, Nuru Ahmed contacted Mrinal Das offering to sell rice, pulses and oil at prices significantly lower than the market rate. He demanded an online payment of Rs 50,000. However, Mrinal Das suspecting foul play stalled the payment and arranged to meet Ahmed in Dharmanagar the following day.

On December 30, Mrinal Das traveled to Dharmanagar and handed over Rs 50,000 in cash to Nuru Ahmed, expecting to receive the promised goods. Ahmed took the money and drove to the Office Tilla area, only to abandon the car and flee. Mrinal Das waited in the Rajbari area before heading to Office Tilla, where he found the driver still with the car. When he tried to contact Ahmed, he found the fraudster’s phone was switched off.

Realizing he had been duped, Mrinal Das rushed to the Dharmanagar police station to report the incident. Fortunately, he had a picture of Nuru Ahmed on his mobile phone, which he provided to the police. Within just two hours, the Dharmanagar police swiftly acted on the information and arrested the fraudster. The police also managed to recover the stolen money, according to sources at the Dharmanagar police station.

The arrest has brought relief to the local community, as Nuru Ahmed had been a persistent troublemaker, involved in numerous fraud cases across the entire Uttar district. The Dharmanagar police have registered a case against him and initiated a thorough investigation into his fraudulent activities.

The prompt action taken by the Dharmanagar police has been praised by the residents, who are hopeful that this arrest will deter future fraudulent activities in the region. “We are grateful for the swift action taken by the police. It brings us a sense of relief and safety,” said a local resident.
