Notorious Thief Arrested from city outskirt, Stolen Items Recovered

Agartala, 23rd August 2026 : Police arrested a suspected habitual thief from the Charipara area on the outskirts of Agartala and recovered several allegedly stolen items from his possession, police said on Sunday.

The arrested person has been identified as Malu Mia. According to Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee, acting on specific information, a police team conducted an operation in the Charipara area and apprehended Malu Mia.

During the preliminary investigation, police found evidence suggesting that the accused may have been involved in several theft cases. A number of items suspected to have been stolen were also recovered from his possession.

Police said they are examining whether the accused has links to other theft cases and are trying to establish the origins of the recovered items. Previous allegations of theft against him are also being verified as part of the investigation.

The police are further questioning Malu Mia to determine whether other individuals are involved in a wider theft network. Officials said further arrests may follow if the investigation reveals the involvement of others.

According to the OC, the accused will be produced before a court on Sunday. Police are expected to seek further questioning to gather additional information about the theft cases and possible associates.
