Agartala Oct 27: NSUI, Tripura Unit on Thursday strongly criticized the fee hike in various courses of Tripura Medical College (TMC), Hapania alleging the ruling BJP government is responsible for these anti-student policies.

Recently an allegation of hiked fees in several courses of Tripura Medical College, Hapania, including MBBS has left the medical study aspirants in distress.Opposing the decision of hiked fees, NSUI Tripura Pradesh conducted a press meet at the Congress Bhavan, Agartala on Thursday.NSUI state president Samrat Roy said, “Such hike in fee structure will make accessibility to higher education difficult for the students especially from the middle and weaker sections”.

In these 4.5 years of BJP governance, the medical course fees were increased for three times in a row and the decision was taken after discussion and approval of the then CM cum Health Minister. Therefore, it is natural that this years’ fee hiking decision was also discussed with the present Health Minister.

Demanding immediate rollback of increased fees, NSUI strongly protested the fee hike adding that due to the increase in fees, the students are afraid of how they will study medicine.Providing data, NSUI said, the medical college fee in 2021-22 was Rs 54 lakh and now it has been increased to about Rs 68 lakh. Moreover, the hostel fees have also been increased.

NSUI warned to launch larger movement in the near days if the hiked fees are not withdrawn immediately. Meanwhile, NSUI also addressed the press conference about the shortage of teachers in educational institutions, publication of JRBT results, and other abnormalities related to the education sector in the state.
