Agartala, 26th June 2024:   In a bold move to protect the educational rights of students in Tripura, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Youth Congress have strongly condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government’s plan to close 107 schools in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. The proposed plan involves merging these schools with larger institutions, which critics argue will push students into darkness and leave them uneducated.

On Wednesday, the NSUI stood firm against the initiative, particularly highlighting the plight of students from 95 schools who will face significant challenges in accessing education if forced to integrate into larger schools. The NSUI warned that such a move would deprive these students of their right to education.

In a decisive step, a delegation from the NSUI handed over a demand letter to the Director of the School Education Department, urging the state government to reconsider and withdraw its plan. The student body’s actions underscore a critical fight to ensure educational access for all students in the region.
