Agartala, 12th July 2025: A one-day HIV/AIDS awareness and sensitization program was held at the Panchayat Samiti Conference Hall in Kadamtala R.D. Block, under the Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura district. The event was jointly organized by the Tripura State AIDS Control Society and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of North Tripura, aiming to educate and sensitize local PRI members about the growing concern of HIV/AIDS in the region.
The program was inaugurated with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Tripura’s Minister of Social Welfare, Social Education, Labour, Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy. Several prominent figures graced the event, including North Tripura Zilla Parishad Chairperson Aparna Nath, Kadamtala Panchayat Samiti Chairman Mihir Ranjan Nath, Vice Chairman Vidya Bhushan Das, former Chairman Subrata Deb, Additional District Magistrate L. Dalong, Project Director of Tripura AIDS Control Society Dr. Samarpita Dutta, and social worker Kajal Das, along with other elected public representatives and health and social service stakeholders.
The seminar highlighted the urgent need for awareness as North Tripura records one of the highest numbers of AIDS cases in the state. A large portion of the affected individuals are youth, including college students and young men who have fallen prey to substance abuse. The trend of using injectable drugs and sharing syringes has led to a sharp rise in daily infections.
To combat this, the state government continues to organize seminars, awareness camps, and discussion forums to educate and engage young people, aiming to steer them away from addiction and back toward healthier lifestyles.
