Opposition talking against women, will become a zero soon: Minister Ratan

Date:

Agartala, 30th April 2026:  Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath has said that parties opposing women-centric legislation are facing declining public support and predicted that the CPIM will be reduced to “zero” in future elections.

Speaking during a one-day session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly in support of the proposed 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill, titled the ‘Nari Shakti Bandhan Adhiniyam’, aimed at strengthening women’s constitutional rights and empowerment, the Minister emphasized the importance of the initiative.

He described the discussion in the Assembly as more than just a legislative proposal, calling it a historic responsibility closely connected to the future of democracy.

“The issue being discussed today is not just a proposal. It is a historic responsibility. Its moral foundation is linked with the future of our democracy,” Nath said.

He added that the Assembly had taken up the matter to send a message across political parties regarding the importance of strengthening women’s political and constitutional rights. “A democracy that does not respect women cannot be complete. The Constitution guarantees equality, but we must ask ourselves whether we, as politicians, are truly ensuring that in practice,” he said, urging opposition parties to support the bill.

Nath further stated that despite criticism from CPIM and Congress, they would remain politically discredited. He said the country’s vision of women’s empowerment must be fulfilled, recalling the enactment of the Women’s Reservation Act in 2023.

“Making a law alone is not enough; we must ensure its implementation. That is why this amendment has been brought forward. Although most of the opposition has resisted it, I urge them to read and understand the bill,” he said.

He also called on women to recognize those opposing the legislation, suggesting that their stance be made known to the public.

Concluding his remarks, the Minister reiterated that parties opposing women’s empowerment are losing public support, adding that CPIM would be reduced to “zero” in the coming times.
