Orange alert issued in Tripura, all DMs asked to prepare for heavy rains

Agartala, 20th August 2025:   The Tripura government has sounded an Orange Alert in view of an intense spell of monsoon showers forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) over the next few days.

According to the Agartala Meteorological Centre, South Tripura district is expected to witness very heavy rainfall between August 21 and 25. Gomati and Sepahijala are also likely to experience heavy downpours on August 24 and 25. Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert has been issued for the remaining districts from August 21 onwards.

In a circular to all District Magistrates and Collectors, the Revenue Department instructed administrations to remain on high alert. Additional Secretary J.V. Duati directed officials to mobilize security, rescue and relief personnel, including NDRF, SDRF, Fire Services, Tripura State Rifles, trained volunteers and other emergency teams.

Authorities have been told to keep flood-response equipment—boats, ropes, life jackets and safety gear—ready, while ensuring constant monitoring of rivers, embankments and other vulnerable points. Evacuation of residents from low-lying and flood-prone zones to safer shelters has also been recommended if the situation worsens.

The advisory stressed quick reporting of damage to infrastructure, restoration of electricity, water supply and roads, along with daily situation reports to the State Emergency Operations Centre by 2 PM.The government appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors during heavy showers, and follow safety instructions strictly.
