Agartala, August 28, 2023: With the initiative of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department, another outlet for selling onions at a cost of Rs 38 per kilogram has been opened at Battala market and Lake Chowmuhani market here on Monday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the opening ceremony at Battala market, Food department’s Director Nirmal Adhikari said “On Friday last, we have opened an outlet for selling onions at a cost of Rs 38 per kilogram at Maharaj Ganj Bazar and received a good response from the consumers. And today, we have opened another outlet at Battala market for selling of onions at Rs 38 per kilogram.”
“In reality, the rate of onions per kilogram has escalated recently. Aiming to control the price hike of onions, Food department has taken this initiative and in the coming days, measures will be initiated to decrease the rate more. In this regard, Battala Udbastu Bazar Bepashayee Samiti had taken a pivotal role in selling onions at this fixed rate of Rs 38 per kilogram”, Adhikari told reporters.
However, the flex hanged by the Battala Udbastu Bazar Bepashayee Samiti’s contradicts the statement of Food department’s Director Nirmal Adhikari as it has clearly revealed that the rate of onions would be Rs 40 per kilo and it will be available in front of Bepashayee Samiti’s office while timings is from 8 AM to 11 AM every day.
