Agartala, 6th December 2025:   A series of coordinated anti-narcotics drives across Sepahijala district on 6 December 2025 led to the destruction of more than one lakh twenty-five thousand cannabis plants, marking one of the largest such operations in the region this year.

Between 12:00 pm and 2:30 pm, a joint team led by Inspector Arup Debbarma, Officer-in-Charge of Kalamchoura Police Station, alongside SI Ashim Bhowmik, ASI Benu Debnath, police station staff, personnel of the 9th Battalion TSR, and officials of the Forest Department, Boxanagar, launched a targeted operation at Nayajala GP in the Dopuriabhan Yasiadong Para forest tilla area. In a sweeping action across twelve separate plots, the team uprooted and destroyed approximately 25,000 pre-mature cannabis plants. Authorities noted that the plantations were spread over difficult terrain, making the operation both extensive and resource-intensive.

Later in the day, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, another large-scale eradication drive was carried out under the leadership of Inspector Ajit Debbarma, Officer-in-Charge of Bishramganja Police Station. He was accompanied by SI Shambhu Charan of the District Branch, women police personnel, other staff members, and contingents from the 11th Battalion TSR. This joint team moved through multiple forested locations, including Latiacherra, Ram Krishna Para, Bhubhan Para, Chikan Cherra, Jogiram Para, and Madhu Para, where they dismantled around one lakh fully matured cannabis plants across eleven plots.

Officials emphasized that these operations form part of an ongoing crackdown aimed at dismantling illegal cultivation networks in remote forest zones. They added that sustained vigilance and periodic coordinated operations remain essential to curbing the illegal trade, which frequently resurfaces in areas with challenging terrain and sparse habitation.

Both operations concluded successfully, with police and TSR units reaffirming their commitment to continuing the fight against illicit narcotics cultivation in the region.
