Over 1,000 security personnel to be deployed for Durga Puja in North Tripura: SP

Date:

Agartala,  14th  October 2026 :   More than 1,000 security personnel will be deployed across North Tripura district during the Sharadiya Durga Puja to ensure peaceful celebrations, while the police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards forced subscriptions and extortion linked to the festival.

North Tripura Superintendent of Police Abhinash Rai (IPS) announced the security arrangements and issued specific guidelines on traffic management and Puja subscriptions during a press conference. On behalf of the district police, he extended greetings and best wishes to the people on the occasion of Durga Puja.

According to the SP, the police have so far received applications for 275 Puja celebrations across the district. Of these, 175 are in Dharmanagar subdivision, 60 in Panisagar and 40 in Kanchanpur. The number may increase slightly with further applications.

To maintain law and order and manage traffic and crowds, over 1,000 personnel from the police, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will be deployed. Six drop gates will be installed to regulate traffic, while 16 special police assistance booths will be established to help visitors. Their locations will be shared through the North District Police’s social media platforms.

Surveillance will be strengthened through CCTV-equipped observation posts at 19 locations. Volunteers from the National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Scouts and Guides will also assist the police during the festivities.

Recalling a tragic road accident on Ashtami last year, Rai urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution and strictly follow traffic regulations. He stressed that compliance with no-entry restrictions and designated parking rules was mandatory, appealing to the public to cooperate with the arrangements despite any temporary inconvenience.

The SP also issued a stern warning against forced collection of donations in the name of Durga Puja. He clarified that compulsory subscriptions and extortion were illegal and that strict action would be taken against those found involved in such activities. However, voluntary donations made willingly would not be objected to.

The district police appealed to residents to maintain communal harmony, avoid spreading or believing rumours, and cooperate with the administration to ensure a safe and peaceful Puja.

Additional SP Ashish Kumar Thakur and SDPO Jayanta Karmakar were also present at the press conference.
