Agartala, 10th March 2026:  Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Tuesday highlighted the significant role of women workers in promoting small savings schemes, noting that over Rs 500 crore has been mobilized through these initiatives.

Addressing the media during an event organized by the Small Saving Department to honor outstanding women contributors, Singha Roy said, “More than Rs 500 crore has been deposited through various small savings schemes across multiple financial institutions, including post offices. It is heartening to see so many women achieving financial independence while encouraging others to save.”

He added that the event aimed to recognize women who have excelled in this sector and contributed to societal empowerment through these schemes.

“The impact of women in this domain is substantial and cannot be overlooked. Despite earning modest commissions — ranging from 0.5 percent in certain schemes to 5 percent in others — their dedication remains unwavering,” he said.

Singha Roy also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for women’s empowerment, noting that such initiatives provide motivation and support for women to play a larger role in financial inclusion.

The event was attended by Finance Secretary Apurba Roy and other senior officials of the department.
