Agartala, 10th March 2026:  Rajya Sabha, Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee raised important demands to safeguard the interests of farmers cultivating the famous Queen pineapple in Tripura.

Speaking during the session, Bhattacharjee said that urgent steps are needed to ensure fair prices and access to international markets for the state’s tribal farmers. He urged the central government to establish a dedicated pineapple park in Tripura, along with modern cold storage facilities and special incentives for export.

The MP highlighted that nearly 33 percent of the tribal population in Tripura is involved in the cultivation of Queen pineapple, making it one of the key sources of livelihood and economic support for the community.

Bhattacharjee also noted that on June 7, 2018, the then President of India Ramnath Kovind declared the Queen pineapple of Tripura as the state’s official fruit. Later, under the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the fruit received Geographical Indication (GI) tag recognition, giving it a unique identity in both domestic and international markets.

Through the Vice President, the MP appealed to the central government to set up a pineapple park in the state. Such a facility would enable pineapple canning and the production of various value-added products, significantly boosting farmers’ income.

He also demanded the establishment of a modern cold storage system to support exports, ensuring that the fruit maintains its quality while being transported to international markets.

Bhattacharjee emphasized that the Queen pineapple is not just a fruit but a symbol of Tripura’s identity. With proper infrastructure and support, he said, farmers’ livelihoods could be secured while strengthening the state’s economy.

He expressed hope that the development of these facilities would help tribal farmers receive fair prices for their produce and enable Tripura’s Queen pineapple to expand its presence in global markets, further strengthening the state’s agriculture-based economy.
