Parliamentary Exchange in Bhutan Reinforces India–Bhutan Friendship: MP Biplab Deb

Agartala, 14th May 2026:  A parliamentary delegation from India, led by former Tripura Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb in his role as Chairman of the India–Bhutan Friendship Group, is currently on an official visit to Bhutan aimed at further strengthening the close and time-tested bilateral relationship between the two neighbouring nations.

During the visit, the delegation held important meetings with Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. The discussions centered on expanding cooperation across diverse sectors and reinforcing the longstanding tradition of friendship and mutual trust between India and Bhutan.

The delegation also includes Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh. Members of the delegation exchanged views on strengthening parliamentary engagement and promoting sustained dialogue between the legislative institutions of both countries.

Biplab Kumar Deb expressed confidence that regular parliamentary exchanges would further deepen and accelerate ongoing bilateral cooperation. He also extended an invitation to the Bhutanese leadership to visit India, suggesting that the visit could align with an upcoming parliamentary session.

He further conveyed his gratitude to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the India–Bhutan Parliamentary Friendship Group. He also appreciated the warm hospitality extended by the Bhutanese leadership throughout the visit.
