Agartala, 14th August 2026 : Partition Horror Remembrance Day sends a message to further strengthen the bonds of unity, harmony, humanity and brotherhood by learning from that difficult chapter of our past.
This was informed by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath today while addressing the Partition Horror Remembrance Day event organized by the History Department of Swami Vivekananda College.
The Minister said that this is not a day to remember the past but a day to learn how division, hatred and envy can destroy a society and a generation.
“Today we must be committed to staying united, and for this, this day is important. After a long struggle, sacrifices and the hopes of millions of Indians, on 15th August 1947 we achieved freedom from British rule. But then there were problems of division. This was not only a geographical partition, but the lives of crores of people were changed in a single night,” he said.
The Minister informed that due to the division, many people became poor, and they were unable to know where to go even after getting freedom.
“Many people lost their homes and ancestral houses. Not only books, but our parents would also tell the real history. We had social, economic and cultural connections which were destroyed after the division. Nobody gave us freedom as an award, but we achieved it in exchange for self-sacrifice, in exchange for imprisonment, through the sacrifice and struggle of countless people. Giving respect to the Indian national flag means giving respect to the people who made the supreme sacrifice during the country’s freedom struggle,” he said.
He also said that everyone getting freedom is a happy moment, but it is also a moment of sorrow. That is why we must be aware of history.
“This Commemoration Day sends a message to further strengthen the bonds of unity, harmony, humanity and brotherhood by learning from that difficult chapter of our past,” he added.
Swami Vivekananda College Principal Monidip Roy, Member of Paschim Tripura Zila Parishad Joyalal Das, social worker Kartik Acharya, and other professors and teachers were present.
At the event, the students performed various patriotic dance and song programmes along with the national anthem.
