Agartala, 25th May 2025: Despite possessing the Chief Minister’s Ayushman Card, several patients and their families in Agartala are reportedly being deprived of medical services raising serious allegations against ILS Hospital and the Asthma Hospital in the city.
According to reports, the Chief Minister’s Ayushman Card issued under the PM-JAY/CM-JAY 2023 scheme is provided to nearly every family in Tripura to ensure access to free medical treatment worth up to Rs 5 lakh annually in empanelled hospitals across India. However, it has come to light that the scheme is not functioning effectively at two major health facilities in the state capital.
Sources reveal that although ILS Hospital is included in the list of empanelled hospitals, the Ayushman Card is only being accepted for five types of operations. Patients allege that it is not valid for any other treatments at the facility. Similar complaints have emerged against the Tripura Medical College & Dr BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital, where patients claim they have been turned away despite holding valid cards.
“There’s growing anger among the people. We stood in long lines and paid at CAC centers to get this card, yet when we need it most, it’s of no use,” said one resident.
Many have expressed frustration and disappointment, questioning the efficacy of the scheme on the ground. They have now appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure that hospitals comply with the promises made under the Ayushman scheme.
“This card was meant to bring relief to the poor, not to add to their suffering,” said another local resident.
