‘Pay 50,000 or be shot’: Tulsibati Motor Syndicate driver’s complaint reaches police

Date:

Agartala, 28th  July 2026 : Members of the Tulsibati Motor Syndicate have lodged a complaint with the police alleging that an alleged BJP local leader identified as Tanuj Dasgupta threatened one of their drivers and demanded Rs 50,000, warning that he would be shot if the money was not paid.

Speaking to reporters outside the police station on Tuesday, a syndicate member claimed that Tanuj Dasgupta had recently visited the transport stand and enquired about driver Shubhankar “Bittu” Karmakar. According to the complainant, the accused allegedly warned that Bittu should “watch his step” and threatened to assault him if he continued to visit the stand.

The syndicate member further alleged that the accused had earlier demanded ₹50,000 from Shubhankar Karmakar and threatened to shoot him if the demand was not met. The complainant said the matter had already been brought to the notice of the syndicate secretary and that the latest incident prompted them to approach the police seeking legal action.

When asked about the identity of the accused, the complainant alleged that Tanuj Dasgupta was associated with the BJP, claiming he had seen him participating in party rallies. However, no evidence was presented to substantiate the political affiliation, and there has been no response from Tanuj Dasgupta or the BJP regarding the allegation.

The syndicate members described the alleged extortion threat as a serious concern for transport workers and urged the administration to ensure their safety. They said they had approached the police seeking justice and warned that if appropriate action was not taken, they would raise the matter with the Chief Minister.

The complaint names Shubhankar “Bittu” Karmakar, a long-time driver with the Tulsibati Motor Syndicate, as the alleged victim.
