Agartala, 8th October 2025 : The Tripura Pradesh Congress today strongly condemned the increasing incidents of violence and sexual assault against women in the state, alleging negligence and inaction on the part of the ruling BJP-led government.
In a press release, Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty claimed that while the state government and the BJP are focused on promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image and celebrating festivals with public funds, large sections of the population including tribal communities, laborers, farmers, and suburban residents are grappling with unemployment, rising prices, withheld wages, and lack of basic government services.
Chakraborty highlighted several recent serious crimes in the state, including the attempted poisoning and sexual assault of a teenage girl in Dharmanagar; the gang rape of a housewife in Baikshara, Bilunia, during which her husband was attacked while trying to intervene; the death of Sumaiya Ali and her unborn child due to domestic violence in Rahim Para, Bosknagar; the sexual assault of a teenage girl in Sabroom by her father; the discovery of a woman’s body in a sack in Amar Colony, Man Pathar, Krishnapur constituency; the sexual assault of a 13-year-old minority girl in Matarbari Hirapur, Udaipur, on October 5; the assault on a tribal girl in Bhabhaiya Bari, Kailashahar, on October 7; and the attack on a female police officer by a BJP deputy chief in Bilonia during Dashami night.
Chakraborty said these incidents reflect a growing climate of fear and social degradation in the state. He criticized the government for treating such crimes as isolated events and accused sections of the police and ruling coalition of enabling a “culture of impunity.”
He urged Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Home Department officials to take immediate and strict legal action to ensure the safety and security of citizens, especially women, warning that Tripura risks being perceived as a “capital of crime.”
The spokesperson also expressed concern over the state’s alleged prioritization of political propaganda over public welfare, asserting that the government’s negligence during Sharad Utsav and other festivals has cast a “shadow of sadness” on the lives of ordinary citizens.
