Agartala, 7th September 2026 : Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Asish Kumar Saha has launched a sharp attack on Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, accusing him of misleading the state’s tribal population and attempting to divide the anti-BJP electorate ahead of the ADC Village Committee elections.
Saha alleged that the Motha leadership was using emotional issues among tribal people, particularly youths, while keeping the details of its recently discussed agreement with the BJP concealed. He questioned the proposed one-month timeframe for implementing the agreement, asking when the period would begin and end and what legal mechanism would be followed after election notification.
Referring to Debbarma’s recent Facebook Live session, Saha alleged that “falsehoods and fabricated narratives” were being spread to confuse voters. He claimed the emerging BJP-Motha understanding was not limited to the ADC polls but was aimed at bringing the coalition government back to power in the 2028 Assembly elections by dividing anti-BJP votes.
“There will be no repeat of 2023,” Saha asserted, urging democratic voters to defeat what he described as a conspiracy to split the anti-BJP vote.
Saha also rejected Debbarma’s contention that Congress and BJP were not each other’s principal political opponents in Tripura. He said the Congress leadership and workers were fully aware of the political reality based on years of experience.
Taking aim at Motha’s record in the ADC, Saha alleged that despite becoming a governing partner, the party had failed to deliver substantial development and instead promoted “personal and familial gain.”
Saha further said Congress was willing to accept advice from any honest, experienced and impartial individual for public welfare, but would not seek guidance from those allegedly aligned with forces working against the interests of students, youths, farmers, workers, tribals and marginalized communities.
The PCC chief appealed to people to expose what he called the “true face” of Motha leadership and work towards maintaining a healthy political environment while resisting attempts to create division.
