Agartala, 16th April 2026 : Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Ashish Kumar Saha on Thursday expressed optimism that the Congress party will witness a significant increase in vote share in the ongoing ADC (Autonomous District Council) elections.
Addressing the media, Saha stated that the party is hopeful of improved performance despite concerns over the pre-election environment. He alleged that tensions and disturbances were reported in several areas even before polling day, creating an atmosphere of fear among voters.
According to Saha, clashes—particularly between supporters of Tipra Motha and the Bharatiya Janata Party—were reported on the eve of voting. He claimed that such incidents intimidated voters and, in many cases, prevented them from exercising their democratic rights freely.
Saha further alleged that prior to the elections, the Congress had urged the Tripura State Election Commission to ensure a free, fair, and transparent polling process. However, he said that the necessary measures were not effectively implemented.
Raising concerns about the upcoming counting process, Saha demanded that security arrangements at vote counting centres be significantly strengthened. He emphasized that a transparent and impartial counting process is crucial to uphold the integrity of the elections.
He expressed hope that the Election Commission would take the matter seriously and implement appropriate measures to ensure a fair conclusion to the electoral process.
