PCC slams govt over power, law and order and healthcare

Date:

Agartala, 7th July 2026: PCC spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty launched a sharp attack on the state government regarding the power system, the introduction of smart meters, the deteriorating law-and-order situation, and the poor state of healthcare services.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan here, Chakraborty alleged that the smart meter project is a “fraudulent system” involving artificial intelligence used against public interest. He claimed that the initiative is wasting public funds while causing immense hardship to ordinary citizens. According to him, electricity consumers in areas such as Dharmanagar and Teliamura are being deprived of services due to persistent server-related issues. “Why should the general public suffer because of server malfunctions?” he questioned.

Turning to law and order, Chakraborty accused the administration of failing to act against the main culprits despite large narcotics seizures, hinting that influential individuals may be involved. He also criticized the dismal state of healthcare services, calling for urgent reforms.

The Congress reiterated its demands for the cancellation of the smart meter project, withdrawal of hiked electricity bills, and improvements to power services. Chakraborty further expressed concern over the theft of money from the donation box at the Ram Mandir, describing it as a matter of grave public concern.

Sadar District Congress President Tanmoy Roy and Congress Treasurer Shyamal Pal were also present at the press conference, lending support to the party’s demands.
