PIL challenges alleged TTAADC recruitment; Petitioners seek court probe : Advocate Purushuttam Roy Barman

Date:

Agartala, 28th July 2026 :   A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been moved before the High Court alleging large-scale irregularities in recent recruitments made by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with the petitioners claiming that nearly 200 appointments were made without adhering to the prescribed recruitment process.

Addressing the media, senior advocate Purushuttam Roy Barman said the petition has been filed in the larger public interest, contending that appointments to public posts cannot be made arbitrarily by bypassing the established selection procedure.

According to Roy Barman, such recruitment practices violate the constitutional principles of equality and equal opportunity in public employment enshrined under Articles 14, 15, and 16 of the Constitution. He alleged that the appointments, if made without proper advertisement and selection, have deprived eligible candidates of the opportunity to compete fairly.

The senior advocate stated that before approaching the High Court, the petitioners had sought information from the TTAADC regarding media reports claiming that around 200 appointments had been made. They requested copies of the appointment list and related records but allegedly received no response. He added that legal notices were issued and applications were filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking details of the recruitment process, notifications, and names of the appointees. However, according to him, the authorities did not furnish any information.

“The administration has failed to maintain transparency in the matter. Even after repeated requests, legal notices, and RTI applications, it has neither disclosed the information nor denied the reports published in the media,” Roy Barman alleged.

He said the PIL urges the High Court to examine the legality of the appointments and, if any irregularities are established, to set aside the recruitments. Stressing that TTAADC is a constitutional institution functioning for the people, Roy Barman asserted that public employment must be governed strictly by constitutional norms and due process, leaving no room for nepotism or arbitrary appointments.
