Agartala, 24th February 2025:    Tripura made history today as Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the 73rd B.N. Mullik Memorial All India Police Football Championship 2024-25 (Men & Women) at Umakanta Mini Stadium, Agartala. The event marks the first time that Tripura is hosting this prestigious tournament, showcasing the state’s growing role in national sports events.

Dr. Saha, who also holds the Home Minister portfolio, expressed his gratitude to Tripura DGP Amitabh Ranjan for bringing the tournament to the state and assured full government support. “This championship is not just about competition; it is an opportunity to strengthen camaraderie among police forces across the country,” he remarked. With 46 teams and over 1,400 participants, matches will take place across five venues in three districts of Tripura.

Emphasizing the multifaceted role of Tripura Police, Dr. Saha highlighted their contributions beyond maintaining law and order. “Tripura Police is one of the oldest forces in India, and as we celebrate 150 years of its establishment, it is heartening to see them actively engaged in social initiatives and excelling in sports. Our police personnel have won numerous national and international medals, bringing pride to the state,” he said.

He also commended the peaceful conduct of recent elections, stating that the public now has renewed trust in the police, reinforcing democracy in Tripura.

Dr. Saha credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s HIRA model (Highways, Internet, Railways, Airways) for the transformation of the Northeast. “Tripura, once known for terrorism, is now recognized for peace and progress. With 12 major accords signed, development has accelerated, bringing express trains, improved national highways, and better connectivity,” he noted.

Encouraging visitors to explore Tripura beyond the tournament, he highlighted the state’s emerging tourism potential.

The event was attended by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, DGP Amitabh Ranjan, DG (Intelligence) Anurag, ADG (Training) Raja Murugan, ADG GS Rao, West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, and Padma Shri Dipa Karmakar, among other dignitaries.
