Agartala, 29th March 2026:  The light of solar microgrids is showing a new direction of hope in remote Janajati areas of Tripura, and a clear reflection of that change is emerging in Karnaram Para of Mungiakami RD Block of Khowai district, which was highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat program today.

This was informed by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath after listening to the Prime Minister’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program with the general public and party workers of the Abhicharan area at booth no. 45 of Mohanpur mandal.

In his speech, PM Modi said, “The benefits of the ‘PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana’ are also being obtained in areas of the Northeast. In Tripura, there are many villages of the Reang tribe which faced electricity problems. Now, through solar mini-grids, their homes remain illuminated. Children there are now able to study even after dusk. People are able to charge their mobile phones, and the social life of villages has also changed.”

Later, the Power Minister said that in the state’s hilly regions, power has been provided to 12,103 families across 347 localities using solar mini-grids, and they are receiving free electricity.

“Under PM Surya Ghar, 2,753 families have set up solar panels and received power. A total of 7,991 farmer families received solar pumps, and 40,000 kani of land have been irrigated. Under PM Devine, 9,725 houses received power. In 247 localities, and under PM Janman, 30 localities covering 1,703 families have benefited. In Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi highlighted solar lighting and also mentioned PM Surya Ghar in the context of Tripura,” said the Power Minister.

The Minister said that today, sunlight is not only illuminating homes in Tripura, but it is also changing people’s dreams.

“My heart is filled with gratitude when the country’s esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned this effort in ‘Mann Ki Baat’. The light of solar microgrids is showing a new direction of hope in remote tribal areas today. A clear reflection of that change is emerging in Karnaram Para of Mungiakami RD Block of Khowai district. This journey from darkness to light tells a unique story of development. This is not just an electricity connection; it is a new beginning of self-reliance. I express my sincere thanks and gratitude to the Prime Minister for this inspiration. Tripura is moving forward, with the power of the sun, towards a new future,” he added.
