PM Suryaghar gains momentum with 17,000 registrations: Power Minister

Agartala, 20th  May 2026: The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited and State government has decided to provide solar panels in exchange for Rs 1,000 to people who are using electricity below 50 units, and for that, 1.5 lakh families have already been identified.

This was announced by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath today.The Minister informed this after he launched the Rooftop Solar PV System Handbook at Geetanjali Guest House.

The Minister said that for 1 kilowatt, the government is giving a subsidy of Rs 33,000, for 2 kilowatts Rs 66,000, and for 3 kilowatts Rs 85,800.

“Meanwhile, we are getting 11 megawatts from PM Suryaghar and 17,000 people have registered, while 3,500 families have installed the system. We have set another target with ADB, TSECL, and the State government. We are identifying 1.5 lakh families who are using power below 50 units. From them, we will take Rs 1,000 and provide solar systems worth Rs 66,000. Through this, 150 megawatts of power will be generated. We are hopeful that work will start from next month, and we are identifying whom to give the systems to. We have records of those who are using power below 50 units. There are 3 lakh families, and for the time being, we will identify 1.5 lakh families,” he said.

The Minister informed that Germany-based GIZ, along with TSECL, is providing training to officials, engineers, and vendors on how to properly maintain and repair solar systems, and that the training has been successful.

“Today, after the training, they published two booklets in English and Bengali for consumers who are earning money through rooftop solar. Earlier, they had to pay electricity bills, and now they are receiving money for power. Today, we launched the booklet where vendors, engineers, officials from banks, and consumers were also present. Those who have not attended the training will also benefit from this,” he added.
