Police arrest five youths in connection with gang-rape case at Santirbazar

Agartala, 15th December 2024:  In a swift response to a heinous crime, the police of Shantir Bazar police station have arrested five youths involved in the gang rape of a minor girl. The incident came to light after the victim’s family filed a written complaint on Saturday.

According to the details of the incident, one of the five youths allegedly kidnapped the minor girl from her house and took her to a rubber plantation in the Mahondaira area of Paikhola. There, the five youths reportedly gang-raped the minor girl throughout the night. The next morning, the traumatized girl returned home and narrated the ordeal to her mother, who immediately filed a complaint at Manpathar Phari police station.

Upon receiving the complaint, Manpathar Phari police station OC Jayanta Das and Shantir Bazar police station OC Ashutosh Sharma launched an investigation. Within a short time, the police successfully apprehended the five youths involved in the incident. The accused, identified as Shaktiyya Riang (18), Nivas Tripura (19), Subhash Riang (19), Lakshmidhan Tripura (18), and Jiban Tripura (21), were arrested and taken into custody.

On Sunday, after completing all legal procedures, the five accused were presented before the Bilonia District and Sessions Court. The case has been assigned to Manpathar Phari Police Station OC Jayanta Das for further investigation.

Shantir Bazar Police Station OC Ashutosh Sharma informed the media about the case, stating, “We have taken swift action to arrest the accused and ensure justice for the victim. The investigation is ongoing, and we are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.”

The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with calls for stringent action against the accused and measures to ensure the safety and protection of minors. The police have assured the public of their dedication to maintaining law and order and preventing such crimes in the future.
