Agartala, 15th December 2024:  The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has announced its plan to hold a Raj Bhavan Abhiyan on December 18, as part of a nationwide protest called by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) against the BJP-led central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the media, TPCC Media Department Chairman Prabir Chakraborty and Pradesh Congress Spokesperson Partha Acharya outlined several issues they attribute to the Modi administration, including alleged corporate favoritism, economic mismanagement, and the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the country.

“The BJP government has formed an unholy alliance between the ruling class and corporate cronies, leading to a catastrophic impact on the nation’s economy,” Chakraborty said. He accused the Modi government of enabling the Adani Group’s exponential rise through unethical practices like stock market manipulation.  “Adani’s transformation from a commodity trader to one of the world’s richest individuals is not natural. It is the result of deliberate favoritism and financial exploitation under the BJP regime,” Chakraborty added.

Highlighting the BJP’s alleged misuse of corporate funds for election campaigns, he cited a report from a Delhi-based NGO. “In 2019, the BJP spent Rs 27,000 crore on elections. For 2024, this figure is expected to balloon to Rs 55,000-60,000 crore. This is an unprecedented and unethical diversion of corporate resources,” he claimed.

The Congress leaders also criticized Prime Minister Modi’s alleged indifference toward national crises, particularly the ongoing communal unrest in Manipur. “Over 200 people have lost their lives, thousands have been displaced, and violence continues unabated in Manipur. Yet, the Prime Minister is preoccupied with foreign trips and shielding his corporate allies,” Acharya remarked.

The Raj Bhavan Abhiyan will begin at 11 a.m. on December 18, starting near the Press Club in Agartala. The TPCC has called on Congress leaders, workers, and supporters at all levels to join the movement and raise their voices against what they term the “corruption and misgovernance” of the BJP government.

The Congress party has vowed to continue its fight against what it describes as a dangerous nexus between the BJP and corporate entities, which it alleges has plunged the nation into economic turmoil and widened the gap between the rich and the common people.
