Agartala, 6th July 2024: In a startling case from Khowai, a police constable finds himself at the center of controversy after his first wife filed a complaint against him at the Khoai Women’s police station. The accusation is that he married a second time without informing her.
According to Rupa Debnath, the first wife, her husband Harekrishna Debnath had kept his second marriage hidden from her. The couple had been married socially in Sonatala area back in 2009 and has two children—a 13-year-old daughter and a four-month-old son. However, over the past few months, Harekrishna’s behavior became inconsistent raising suspicions for Rupa.
On Friday, Rupa confronted her husband after catching him red-handed at the house of Pinki Rani Devdas in Pahrmura area. It was then that she found he had secretly married another woman six months prior. Frustrated and seeking justice, Rupa filed a written complaint against her husband and in-laws at the Khowai Mahila police station.
The incident has raised questions about the role of law enforcement officers in society. As protectors of the community, how will the Women’s police station handle this case? Will they ensure fair justice for Rupa Debnath and her minor children by thoroughly investigating the matter? Only time will tell.
It’s essential to address such cases promptly and transparently to maintain public trust in law enforcement.
