Agartala, 6th July 2024: The North Tripura district police officials on Saturday arrested two drug traffickers and seized 12 grams of heroin worth Rs 1,20,000 in the illegal market. The accused have been identified as Ramjan Ali (30) and Nipesh Sabdakar (35) both residents of the Sylheti Camp area under Panisagar Police Station were apprehended near the Padmapur Club in Dharmanagar based on secret information.
The police also recovered a bike bearing the registration number TR05-7513 from their possession. The club members assisted the police in apprehending the accused.
The Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty expressed gratitude to the club members for their cooperation and assured them of his support in addressing any drug-related issues. He also announced plans to organize an awareness camp on the ill effects of drug abuse.
The seized heroin was examined in the presence of government officials. The accused were arrested under the NDPS Act and are being interrogated at Dharmanagar Police Station to ascertain the source of the drugs.
SP Chakraborty informed that the accused were roaming in the Padmapur area to sell drugs when they were spotted by the club members. The police were then informed and with their help, the drugs were recovered.
The SP commended the public for their growing awareness against drugs and their willingness to assist the police. He urged them to continue their cooperation in curbing the menace of drug trafficking in Dharmanagar Sub-division.
