Police Detain 8 Bangladeshi Nationals Near Agartala Airport After Tip-Off

Agartala, 28th June 2026:  Police in Tripura have detained eight Bangladeshi nationals over the past 24 hours near the area of Agartala in connection with an alleged attempt to travel outside the state after entering India illegally.

According to officials, the Airport Police Station acted on specific intelligence that four Bangladeshi nationals would arrive in Tripura and attempt onward travel through Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport. Following surveillance, police first detained four individuals.

During questioning, information emerged that led to the identification and detention of four additional individuals from the airport vicinity, bringing the total to eight.

Police said all those detained are adult males who were allegedly planning to leave the state via the airport. The first group is already in police remand, while the second group has been produced before a court and remanded to police custody. Investigators are now examining how the group entered the state, their intended destination, and whether a larger illegal immigration or trafficking network may be involved. The probe is ongoing.
