Agartala, 22nd February 2026: In a heartwarming gesture, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ajit Debbarma of Bishramganj Police Station has stood beside four deaf-mute students from impoverished families, wishing them success as they prepare for their upcoming secondary and higher secondary final examinations.
This year, a large number of students from the Bishramganj area will sit for board exams. Among them are four differently-abled candidates who cannot speak or hear, yet continue their studies despite severe financial hardship. Their parents earn a living through daily wage labor—collecting firewood, working in rubber plantations, or hiring out their labor on others’ land.
The four students include: Sadia Akter, daughter of firewood seller Gias Uddin and Fatema Begum of Chikonchhara Bailya Mura, who will appear for the secondary exam from Lathiyachhara High School. Dipu Debbarma, son of daily laborer Khokan Debbarma of Promodnagar village, who will sit for the higher secondary exam from Promodnagar Higher Secondary School. Bishwanath Debbarma, son of poor laborer Buddhu Debbarma of Promodnagar village, who will appear for the secondary exam from Promodnagar Higher Secondary School. Sonali Saha, daughter of Khokan Saha of Samatal Amtali, who will sit for the higher secondary exam from Bishramganj Vidya Jyoti School.
This morning, OC Debbarma personally visited their homes, spoke with their parents, and learned about their struggles. He handed over essential exam supplies—40 quality pens, notebooks, four jars of Horlicks, and a variety of fruits including apples, grapes, pomegranates, and oranges—to ensure the students do not suffer from nutritional deficiencies during this crucial period.
Debbarma assured the families that he would continue to support the children financially in their education, regardless of where he is posted in the future. His compassionate initiative has drawn widespread praise from education enthusiasts and residents across Bishramganj, who see him as a symbol of a changing police culture—one rooted not only in law enforcement but also in humanity.
Local residents remarked that OC Debbarma has set a shining example of humane policing, proving that behind the uniform lies a warm, empathetic heart. “He feels like one of our own family members,” said a community elder, lauding the officer’s commitment.
Speaking to the media, OC Ajit Debbarma reiterated his pledge to continue supporting the four students in their educational journey, ensuring they can pursue their dreams and build a better future.
