Agartala, August 22: The police in Tripura have sealed a rice godown and questioned a fair price shop owner in connection with the theft of rice from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown in Jaharnagar. The police had earlier arrested Nandan Rudra Pal, who was allegedly involved in the theft, and interrogated him.
During the interrogation, Pal revealed the names of several fair price shop owners who were also involved in the racket. One of them, Ranjan Debnath, was taken into custody by the Ambasa police and his rice godown was sealed with the help of the Ambasa sub-divisional administration. The police said that Debnath was questioned again on Monday evening and he mentioned the name of a businessman from Teliamura who was also part of the conspiracy.
The police said that they will continue to investigate the case and take legal action against the culprits. They also said that Debnath’s rice godown will remain sealed until further notice. The theft of rice from the FCI godown had come to light after some locals had informed the police about suspicious activities in the area. The police had raided the godown and recovered several bags of rice that were meant for public distribution.
