Agartala, 25th November 2025:    In a major crackdown against illegal trade, Damcherra Police Station staff in North Tripura successfully seized contraband Burmese cigarettes worth an estimated Rs 15 lakh and arrested one individual.

Acting on a tip-off, OC Sanjay Majumder led a team to Kanajuri village this early morning. The raid resulted in the recovery of 16 cartons of Oris Burmese cigarettes from the residence of Abdul Fatar alias Asad (38).

Police sources confirmed that the seized cigarettes were being stockpiled for black-market sale. The accused was taken into custody and is currently under interrogation.

The operation comes as part of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s ongoing campaign to build a “drug-free Tripura,” with North District police intensifying efforts to curb smuggling and substance abuse across the region.
