Police under fire for leniency toward Sarov Hossain

Agartala, 26th May 2026:  Allegations of police negligence have surfaced in Tripura after locals attempted to capture a notorious drug mafia, Sarov Hossain, in the Chelagang area. Despite being detained twice in the past year for drug-related offenses, Hossain reportedly managed to secure release each time, fueling suspicions of administrative leniency.

On Monday, residents tried to apprehend Hossain, but he fled the scene. In the chaos, locals detained another man identified as Rajib Das and informed Chelagang police. Officers later arrived but, failing to locate Hossain, took his elder brother into custody instead.

Community members expressed frustration, claiming that the unchecked drug trade is destroying the youth and eroding trust in law enforcement. They argue that weak charges and superficial legal measures have allowed Hossain to evade serious consequences.

Residents are now demanding strict legal action under appropriate sections of the law, warning that if authorities fail to act decisively, they will be forced to protect their neighborhoods themselves. The spotlight remains on Chelagang police to see whether they will finally pursue meaningful action against the alleged drug mafia.
