Agartala, 5th March 2025:   The son of political leaders has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman multiple times by promising marriage. The accused has been identified as Joydeep Debnath, son of Jagadish Debnath, a state leader of BMS and Usha Debnath, an active member of BJP Mahila Morcha.

It is reported that, Joydeep developed a romantic relationship with a girl from Lankamura under Airport police station. He allegedly took her to a guest house near Tripura Medical College & Dr BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital at Hapania multiple times and raped her on the pretext of marriage. Later when the girl asked him to marry her, he and his parents refused. Despite repeated requests from the victim, Joydeep continued to deny marrying her.

Left with no choice, the girl filed a written complaint with the West Agartala Women’s Police Station two days back. After receiving the complaint, the police transferred the case to Amtali police station through a Zero FIR. The case was registered under sections 69, 351(2) BNS with case number 23/2025. Sub-inspector Susmita Debnath of Amtali Police Station took charge of the investigation and launched a search for the accused.

Based on secret information, the police with the help of College Tilla Outpost arrested Joydeep from his residence last night. He was produced in court this afternoon. Meanwhile, his parents were seen near Amtali police station this morning.

The police took a strong stand against the accused proving that the law does not compromise with criminals even if they are connected to political leaders. Residents of Aralia are now demanding strict punishment for Joydeep.
