Agartala, 27th August 2025 : In a significant political development ahead of the 2026 Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, 52 voters from 13 families in Takarjala assembly constituency have switched allegiance from the Tipra Motha party to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The mass joining took place this afternoon in Harimangal Para under the Jorma Joynagar Village Committee of Takarjala Mandal. The joining ceremony was led by Mandal President Nirmal Debbarma, who welcomed the new members by handing them BJP flags. Mandal Vice President Ramanath Debbarma was also present at the event.
Speaking to the media personnel, Nirmal Debbarma said the upcoming ADC elections have triggered a wave of political realignment in the hills, with many voters leaving other parties to join the BJP. “This trend reflects growing confidence in the BJP’s vision for tribal development,” he stated.
The Tipra Motha party, which has traditionally held a strong base in Takarjala, saw its candidate Biswajit Kalai win the 2023 Assembly elections with record votes. However, the recent defections have stirred speculation in local political circles, with some observers describing the shift as a “reverse tide” in the region’s electoral landscape.
