Agartala, October 28, 2022: Youth Affairs and Sports minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday said that the state government has taken the initiative of reserving posts for sportsmen in the recruitment of government jobs in order to encourage the youths of the state in sports.
Claiming this decision initiated in the state cabinet meeting, Chowdhury in a press conference at Civil Secretariat here on Friday afternoon highlighted the success of various infrastructural developments of the Youth Affairs and Sports department. He said that the state government will take a decision after reviewing the policy of reservation of posts for players in the government jobs of various states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha etc.
Minister said that the most importance has been given to improving the quality of sports due to sports infrastructure. In this regard, the department of Youth Affairs and Sports in cooperation with the central and state governments is working earnestly for the development of various infrastructures in the sports field. Construction of a state-of-the-art swimming pool is underway at Panisagar Regional Physical Education College under central government’s Khelo India project at a cost of Rs 5 crore and 95 percent of which has been completed. Under the Khelo India project, the construction of synthetic turf for football at the cost of Rs 5 crore at the Khowai Class 12th school ground is nearing completion. The construction of synthetic turf for athletics at a cost of Rs 7 crore at the Dasarath Deb Smriti Stadium in the Khelo India project is also nearing completion.
He also said that Rs 20 crore have been given to the Sports department from the special assistance of the state government for the construction of football synthetic turf at 4 places in the state.
