Agartala, 17th April 2025: A power cut hit the Ghota area of North Charilam today afternoon, just ahead of the anticipated Kalbaisakhi storm, leaving residents frustrated and concerned.
Locals allege that despite repeated complaints, the electricity department has failed to address the long-standing issue of dangerously hanging power cables in the area.
According to residents, the power supply is frequently disrupted even by mild winds. Today, a light breeze caused multiple trees to fall on the hanging electric wires, plunging the entire area into darkness. One particularly large tree came crashing down on power lines near a spot where several local youths were gathered. The group narrowly escaped serious injury.
Locals claim they have repeatedly requested the electricity department to take preventive measures and fix the hanging cables. However, they allege the department’s response has remained the same—empty promises and repeated delays. “Not today, not tomorrow, maybe the day after,” is the kind of excuse locals say they’ve been hearing for months.
When contacted, staff from the electricity department stated that they have not been provided with adequate materials or support from higher authorities to carry out the necessary repairs.
With the Kalbaisakhi looming, residents now fear further danger and prolonged outages if the issues remain unresolved.
