Agartala, 16th March 2024: In a significant development for Tripura’s energy sector, the foundation stone for a new 120 MW gas-based power generation project was laid at Rukhiya, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s infrastructure advancement. The ceremony, graced by the Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, took place at 11 am on Saturday in front of the Rukhiya DGM office room, signaling the commencement of a project that promises to bolster the region’s power generation capabilities.
Rukhiya, located within the Boxanagar block, has long been recognized as a crucial hub for gas-based power generation, contributing significantly to both the state’s and the nation’s energy exports. Despite its strategic importance, the area saw limited human welfare improvements during the previous administration. However, under the current ‘double engine’ government, both at the state and central levels, Rukhiya’s power plant has been undergoing a transformation through the implementation of cutting-edge technologies and innovative projects.
The construction of the 120 MW project, estimated to cost around Rs 845 crore taka, is expected to span approximately three years, although this timeline may extend depending on project specifics. The initiative is anticipated to have far-reaching impacts, potentially reducing electricity costs for the common people, generating employment opportunities, and fostering the growth of Buxnagar into a thriving town or city centered around the power generation facility.
The foundation-laying event was attended by a host of dignitaries, including the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Power Department Ratanlal Nath, MLA Tafajjal Hossain, District President Supriya Das Datta, Chairman of Boxanagar Panchayat Samiti Sanjay Sarkar, and various officials from the power sector.
The project’s implementation, driven by the people-centric approach of the ‘double engine’ government, has been met with widespread enthusiasm from the local community.
In his address, Minister Ratan Lal Nath underscored the department’s commitment to enhancing the state’s power infrastructure and echoed the national vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ and ‘Ek Tripura Shrestha Tripura,’ aiming to elevate India and Tripura through sustainable development and unity.
This project stands as a testament to the government’s dedication to improving the lives of its citizens and the overall prosperity of the region, setting a new benchmark for energy projects in Tripura.
