Agartala, 16th March 2024: In a significant push for railway infrastructure development in North Tripura, the Dharmanagar Railway Division, represented by the Demand and Development Committee, has submitted detailed memorandums to the state leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The memorandums, addressed to both the BJP state president and the North Tripura district president, outline a series of demands aimed at enhancing railway connectivity and administrative efficiency in the region.
The committee, led by President Kandarp Bhattacharya, has reiterated the need for constructing new railway lines connecting Dharmanagar with key locations such as Kailashahar, Kamalpur, Khowai, and extending services to Juri in Bangladesh. Additionally, the memorandums call for the establishment of a dedicated Railway Division and Railway Recruiting Board offices in Dharmanagar, a move that is expected to streamline railway operations and boost local employment opportunities.
Reflecting on the BJP’s historical support for railway development in the area, Bhattacharya urged the party to take immediate action to fulfill the promises made to the people of North Tripura. He highlighted the BJP’s past initiatives, including public demonstrations and election campaigns, where commitments were made to establish a railway division in Dharmanagar. These pledges date back to the 2013 assembly elections and were reinforced during the 2015 town council elections by BJP central leader Sunil Deodhar.
Bhattacharya also pointed out the continuous efforts of the Railway Division Demand Committee since 2016, which has been actively protesting and lobbying for the realization of these demands. The committee has submitted numerous applications to high-ranking officials, including the Prime Minister of India and the Railway Minister, seeking their intervention. Furthermore, local MLAs from Dhalai, Unakoti, and North Tripura districts have been approached to advocate for this fundamental demand in the Assembly.
The community’s anticipation for the actualization of these long-standing demands remains high, as the establishment of a railway division in Dharmanagar is seen as a crucial step towards the region’s development and prosperity.
