Agartala, 6th March 2024: Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized today that linemen and helpers play a crucial role in the service-related operations of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL).
Speaking at the Linemen’s Day event held at the corporate office of Tripura State Electricity Corporation, Minister Ratan Lal Nath extended his wishes for good health to every lineman, helper, and employee across all levels of the power corporation. The occasion was part of the Power Protection Week.
Minister Nath highlighted the significance of linemen and helpers in the day-to-day operations of the corporation. During the inauguration, he urged all officials and workers to exercise increased caution and adhere to safety measures in the electricity service sector. He also called for the protection of electricity workers and officials to ensure continuous power supply throughout the state.
Addressing the issue of safety, the power minister pointed out that some power workers in the state have lost their lives prematurely due to non-compliance with electrical safety rules. He mentioned cases of permanent paralysis and regular injuries, citing a current incident where a worker at GB Hospital had to undergo amputation to save his life.
Nath stressed the importance of following safety rules to prevent such situations, emphasizing that adherence to guidelines can safeguard the lives of electricity workers. He expressed concern that if these essential workers are exposed to severe dangers without adequate protection, it could disrupt the uninterrupted power services provided during storms and rains.
The power minister appealed to all power workers, including linemen and helpers, to prioritize their safety. He underscored the vital role of the electricity sector in providing essential services, stating that even a brief interruption in power supply can lead to significant difficulties for the public.
“Electricity is a vital sector in the service industry. While other government departments may close temporarily without causing much trouble, a few minutes of electricity service interruption can result in great hardships for the people. Hospitals cannot function, factories stop production, and the daily lives of the public are endangered. It is crucial for the common people to consider the safety of electricity workers,” he added.
