Agartala, 26th December 2025:   Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen passed away at a private hospital in Bangalore at 3:20 am today, said to Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Minister said that Biswabandhu Sen, a senior leader of the nationalist political party, was a prominent figure in Tripura politics and a well-known cultural activist. He was also recognized for his contributions to poetry and the theatre industry.|

“A lifelong believer in nationalist ideology, Sen was active in the student movement from his school days. He played a key role in strengthening his party’s organization across northern Tripura, particularly during the Left Front era. He was known for his work with marginalized communities and youth, advocating for their welfare and providing support through political initiatives”, said Power Minister.

Minister informed that Sen was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Dharmanagar constituency in 2008 and subsequently won re-elections in 2013, 2018, and 2023. During his tenure, he earned recognition for his parliamentary skills and constructive role as an opposition leader.

“He served as Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Assembly before being appointed Speaker of the Thirteenth Tripura Assembly in 2023, where he conducted legislative sessions with efficiency and impartiality. On August 5, Sen fell seriously ill after returning home from Assembly duties in Dharmanagar. He received emergency treatment in Agartala before being moved to Bangalore for advanced care. Despite initial positive reports on his condition, he succumbed to his illness earlier today”, he said.
